Lit., Tyre, a famous mariiime and commercial city of the Phœnicians, especially celebrated for its purple, now the ruins of Soor, Mel. 1, 12, 2; Plin. 5, 19, 17, § 76; Curt. 4, 2 sq.; Cic. N.
